Switch from Gong only after separating call capture from conversation analysis, coaching, engagement, forecasting, deal inspection, and CRM operations. A team may use only part of Gong’s documented surface, but the replacement still needs to preserve every required artifact, relationship, decision, and permission.

This comparison is based on official Gong documentation and Gangly repository facts accessed August 9, 2026. Gangly did not run Gong, inspect a customer workspace, compare transcript accuracy, verify outcomes, or obtain comparable quotes.

Start with the conversation jobs

Inventory who consumes conversation evidence and why. Reps may need summaries and next steps; managers may need coaching evidence; RevOps may need CRM activity and deal signals; executives may need forecast and pipeline views; legal or security may govern recording and retention.

Build a 30-day usage ledger for calls, recordings, transcripts, summaries, trackers, scorecards, comments, snippets, playlists or libraries, coaching, AI outputs, Engage work, deal boards, forecasts, CRM fields, reports, APIs, permissions, and retention. Mark each required, unused, replaceable, or contract-dependent.

Run the Gong transcript accuracy test before using generic transcription complaints as a switch rationale.

What Gong currently documents

Gong documents a CRM-connected revenue platform, not only call recording. Its CRM integration guide describes importing accounts, contacts, and opportunities; attaching CRM context to conversations; supporting Engage, deal boards, Forecast, and advanced insights; exporting activities; editing imported CRM fields; and using CRM fields in email variables or AI briefs.

The same guide says supported behavior varies by CRM and that Gong can connect to one CRM at a time. It recommends a dedicated integration user so an employee deactivation does not break the connection. Those are configuration facts, not proof that every buyer should enable every write.

Gong’s CRM export status report documents Gong and CRM IDs, action, success or failure, reason, and solution owner. Use that evidence to reconcile current behavior before recreating it elsewhere.

Where Gangly is and is not a substitute

Gangly can be evaluated for a smaller rep-controlled workflow around meetings. Repository facts describe call preparation, live guidance through Zoom or Google Meet, post-call summary and task drafts, and reviewed CRM outputs.

Required jobGong documentationGangly boundary
Conversation corpusCaptured interactions, searchable context and analysisNo complete organization-wide library claim
Manager coachingConversation evidence and performance workflowsLive rep guidance; not full manager analytics
EngagementEngage and CRM-backed outreachRep-reviewed drafts; no bulk sequencer claim
Forecast and dealsForecast and deal boardsNo forecast or full deal-inspection replacement
Rep meeting workflowConversation plus CRM contextPreparation, live support, post-call drafts, reviewed CRM

If searchable conversation history, organization-wide coaching analytics, engagement execution, deal boards, or forecasting remain required, Gangly is not a drop-in replacement. It may serve a bounded rep job beside Gong or another destination.

Run a shadow call test

Use the same consented meetings, CRM records, and adjudication rubric. Include ordinary calls, internal meetings, poor audio, multiple speakers, namesakes, two accounts represented, no-show, private meeting, missing transcript, late recording, revoked permission, merged opportunity, and a newer human CRM edit.

Score capture completeness, participant identity, transcript fidelity, material-summary accuracy, decision and next-step capture, useful guidance, rep corrections, manager usefulness, CRM association, field integrity, duplicates, privacy behavior, latency, retrieval, and recovery. Preserve raw counts, not just averages.

Hard-stop on recording outside approved policy, cross-account disclosure, materially incorrect commitments, suppression failure, duplicate CRM activity, or an unexplained consequential write.

Plan the switch boundary

Freeze new capture only after artifacts and active workflows have a destination. Inventory calls, recordings, transcripts, speakers, summaries, trackers, scorecards, coaching artifacts, libraries, comments, generated outputs, Engage work, deal and forecast objects, CRM associations, hierarchy, configuration, permissions, APIs, retention, and deletion obligations.

The Gong migration checklist owns artifact portability labels, snapshot and final delta, checksums, relationship reconciliation, active-capture stop, target staging, rollback, revocation, and deletion evidence. Per-call or API access must not be generalized into complete bulk portability.

Make the decision

Keep Gong when its conversation corpus, analytics, coaching, engagement, deal, or forecast jobs are required and pass the buyer’s tests. Layer Gangly when a bounded rep-prep or reviewed follow-through job improves without duplicate capture or CRM authority. Switch only when every required artifact, decision, and historical relationship has a proven destination.

Compare license, platform, seats, modules, storage, implementation, integration users, administration, review and correction, enablement, overlap, export, reconstruction, migration, retention, and exit. A smaller tool is cheaper only after missing jobs are costed honestly.
